On October 17, the jazz club MASA will host a performance featuring music from popular Italian films of the 1960s and 1970s, presented by a quintet of young-generation jazz musicians, with a special focus on the works of Piero Piccioni and Lelio Luttazzi.
During this era, Italian film music evolved into a unique sonic universe where jazz intersected with lounge, bossa nova, funk, and orchestral music. Composers freely drew upon diverse stylistic influences to craft soundscapes that were simultaneously elegant, rhythmic, and cinematic.
The concert will feature music from iconic films such as Camille 2000, Amore mio aiutami, Colpo Rovente, Anna Karenina, Quelle strane occasioni, La Matriarca, Femina Ridens, A Virgem de Saint Tropez, and others. The program will showcase how film music – while retaining its narrative function – developed into a distinct musical language characterized by striking melodies, groove, jazz harmonies, and opportunities for improvisation.
